Arthur Hovhannisyan, the Hayatsq
Our mass media often covers a topic that fight against corruption in Armenia is a show. Corrupted officials can’t fight against corruption and won’t chop down the wire, which supplied them. Consequently, the civic society should find ways to fight corruption. Still in 2012, “Teghout Support”, “Trchkan”, “Khosrov reserve”, “Jermuk Won’t Become a Mine” civic initiatives applied to PM Tigran Sargsyan demanding “to bring Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan and all officials to justice, who are guilty of criminal omissions resulted in damage to environment and state.” At the same time, the initiative demanded to dismiss Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan. PM’s reply was inappropriate; he violated 30-day duration designed for official response. When the initiatives reminded him in writing, he sent the demand to Nature Protection Ministry, i.e. the body the activists complained of. Naturally the initiatives refused to take part in the meeting. It’s inexcusable that the facts and issues laid down in the letter were not examined and measures were not taken.
