Trees are felled in Yerevan, but nobody stops the axe. After the felling Nature Protection Ministry draws up acts and estimates damage, and turns blind in certain cases, while Yerevan Mayor continues speaking about the inadmissibility of destroying green zone. Only recently the range of damage made up 1,490,000 AMD due to the felling in Malatiya-Sebastia area on 21 February. On 23 February an alarm signal was beaten about tree felling in Nor Nork 1, around 350-400 trees. On this background, the Mayor’s assignment is rather noteworthy. “Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan assigned to continue the control over illegal felling outlining that RA Law “On Administrative Offences” says about the authorities of the local bodies to impose sanctions in regard with the damage and destruction of green zones.”
