Deno Gold Mining Company Didn’t Appear at Court Hearing

Public activists have been protesting in front of Qanaqer-Zeytoun court with posters “Who Fears, Pressures”, “Soil Eater – Man Eater”, “Canadian Colonists, Leave Armenia”. Civil society – “Teghout Support” initiative, “Pan-Armenian Environmental Front”, “Trchkan”, “Sardarapat”, the Alliance of Public Environmental Organization gathered for a protest demonstration in the support of “green” activist Yeghia Nersisyan, whom Deno Gold Mining Company sued for slander. Nevertheless, the company representative didn’t turn up at the court hearing of 29 March. “Taking into consideration that I can’t appear in court because of my health state caused by flu and temperature, as well as guided by Article 119 (1(a)) of the Procedure Code of RA, I ask you to postpone the court hearing,” says the plaintiff’s statement read by Judge Armen Danielyan. The enxt court hearing was appointed on 15 April.
The protest demonstration continued near the Yerevan Office of EBRD, which funds Deno Gold Mining. “The bank shouldn’t finance this company. We came here to say, if you fund them, you are like them,” said green activist Mariam Sukhudyan.
