In recent years more water has been let out of Lake Sevan than it was prescribed. Engineer-mechanic Sergey Hajinyan has been beating this alarm, as he has been dealing with the problem of Lake Sevan for over 20 years. In his work entitled ‘Antinational process to hinder and prevent Lake Sevan level increase continues’ he says, “…the water let out of Lake Sevan annually was not 170 million square meters, but about 450 million square meters without the presence of vaporization factor.”
As water intake last year started a month and a half earlier than it was usually done, on 2 May, (it was not the first case), that’s why the water volume let out in late September already made up 500 million square meters, which made the authorities stop it. Even in this case they assure that even in case of extra water outlets the total volume of water won’t exceed 320 million square meters…” Sergey Hajinyan presents evidence and proposals to save Sevan.
