170 million cubic meters will be taken from Lake Sevan in 2013 for irrigation purposes. On June 6 the Armenian government adopted ‘About Water Intake from Lake Sevan for Irrigation Purposes in 2013’ bill developed State Committee for Water Industry.
170 million cubic meters is the top limit as set in Ra Law “On Approving Annual Complex Program on the Recovery, Conservation, Recovery and Use of Lake Sevan Ecosystem”. Reminder: in 2012 an unprecedented amount of water was taken from Lake Sevan for irrigation purposes – 320 million square meters.
