Our mines mainly extract gold, silver, copper and molybdenum, while the remaining natural resources find themselves in the tailing dumps or dumps and then spread in the environment thus polluting earth and water. The tails of the Armenian mines should be urgently processes, where all the useful elements should be extracted. This is what Hrachya Avagyan, Dr. in Geological Sciences, Chief Specialist of Institute of Economics of NAS RA writes in his “Ways of Development and Perspectives of Mining and Metallurgical Industries in the Republic of Armenia” book. Under him, the following elements are dumped into the tailing dumps: copper, molybdenum, silver, rhenium, gold, selenium, tellurium, bismuth, nickel, cobalt, zinc, iron, vanadium, scandium, platinum, and palladium. “The useful elements present in the dumps and tailing dumps will lose their “marketable” style under the effect of atmospheric precipitation and oxygen or will get spread with the help of water and winds into environment thus polluting or poisoning it. The aforementioned bring to the assurance that the useful elements present in the ore can be extracted from the very beginning in more profitable and expedient way in parallel with the extraction of the main elements. There is another important point: the complex use of the ire in parallel with the extraction of main and related components and the increase in the mining products extends the life cycle of the mining enterprises and contributes to the improvement of workers’ social and household conditions,” Hrachya Avagyan writes.
