The police have eventually proceeded to the actions they are accustomed to – detention of activists. After forced restrained attitude towards activists opposing to increase in prices for transport and having organized a protest demonstration near Yerevan Municipality, the police together with active residents of Yerevan moved to 5 Komitas street. It’s already several days since the local resident and civic initiatives, who have joined them, have been opposing to the construction of a multi-storey building in a public territory.
On 21 August the protest demonstration got more powerful and people tried to stop the construction. The police detained well-known director Tigran Khzmalyan, a member of Pre-parliament, set up as an alternative to the current authorities. After a while Tigran Khzmalyan was set free. The police could have done the other way, as it didn’t set free political prisoners, the representatives of the youth branch of Armenian National Congress. But they set him free, and then sentences for different durations. Thus, thanks to our police, the most humane police in the world.
