“If we continue using the waters in Ararat Valley at such a rate, in upcoming 1-2 years the decrease of underground waters will continue up to its cessation, which is a great hazard for the nuclear power plant,” said Ashot Sargsyan Ashot Sargsyan, hydrogeologist of “Hayjrnakhagits Insitute” and “Mel-Hov” company consortium said on 18 March when presenting the findings of the Study of Groundwater Resources in the Ararat Valley in the frames of the USAID Clean Energy and Water Program (CEWP). The group of experts has developed a set of proposal to save Ararat Valley from desertification presented by hydrogeologist Ashot Sargsyan:

• To introduce water-efficient closed or semi-closed systems in all fish farms for one or two years.

• To conserve a number of wells as needed,

• To perform mandatory monitoring in the artesian basin of Ararat Valley etc.
