Spandaryan Village in Syunik Region Getting Derelict(Phots)

Spandaryan Village in Syunik Region with 446 villagers is getting derelic because of hard social conditions. Several days ago EcoLut's correspondent visited thi village, where the villagers told that they don't have the necessary equipment to deal with agriculture and husbandry. 'If it continues like this, we will emigrate, there is nothing to do here... we can't plough land areas, as we don't have either fuel or machinery. We can hardly make the meets end...The youth don’t have many kids, just one or two…everything is expensive… If we have a funeral in the village, we have to make debts to bury the deceased. Everything is so expensive – electricity, flour… we take loans and can’t live quietly. The government doesn’t assist us in anyway, we are living on our pension,' Spandaryan residents said.

Spandaryan Community Head Spartak Simonyan said in his interview with EcoLur that the government receives aid from the government in the form of fuel and seeds. The World Bank project will provide new machinery to the village, where 50% of investment will be made by the government. But the residents mentioned that they can’t see any aid either from the government or any other place. Anyone who can get US $ 200 flies away to Siberia. They don’t even want to hear about coming back,” Spandaryan resident Sedrak Nazaryan said.

Spandaryan is not the only village in such situation. Hundreds of villages are in hard social conditions. The Armenian authorities are encouraging not to speak about emigration so as not to make our enemies happy. In this case it should be mentioned that instead of hiding the reality, serious measures and projects must be taken to help the villagers, to help them earn their living and not to emigrate, to say and to protect their land and water.
