Despite Availability of Funds Construction of North-South Corridor Put off

The public representatives discussed North-South Corridor project at the meeting held at ADB Armenia  with the participation of Areg Barseghyan, Senior Portfolio Management Officer, Silva Adamyan – Chairman of “Center for Bird Lovers”, Aram Grigoryan – “Union of Public Defenders” NGO, Hasmik Aslanyan – Chairman of “Shogher Union” NGO and Monica Yeritsyan – “EcoLur” Informational NGO.

“I don’t know what these funds were spent on. You are funding and making different investments, but again there is no road,” Silva Adamyan was angry.

In reply to the question whether the bank conducted any monitoring or how the funds were distributed, Areg Barseghyan replied, “The loans granted so fat haven’t been spent completely.”

“In 2014 the sum of the first tranche – US $60 million was designed to accomplish Yerevan-Ararat and Yerevan-Ashtarak, which hasn’t been done so far. As a result of the negotiations, the first tranche was prolonged for one year, the second tranche was prolonged for two years. The works accomplished so far were paid through Tranches 1 and 2: Yerevan-Artashat and Yerevan - Ashtarak section vdue to the first tranche, Ashtarak-Talin section was accomplished due to the second tranche. The third tranche is designed for Talin-Lanjik,” Areg Barseghyan said.
