Armenia met the international day of combating cancer, February 4, with extremely worrying data: officially, the cancer disease rate has increased by 80% within the last 10 years, while death rate has increased by 90%. International organization, World Life Expectancy, published data on the cancer death rate with a reference to the World Health Organization. According to the Organization’s web site, Armenia is a top one country in terms of all cancer death rate among 172 countries. The website shows data about expected life span collected from all corners of the planet. The death rate is calculated per 100,000, thus, in “all cancer type” column Armenia holds the first line with an indicator of 229.84, then indicators are mentioned according to the countries and individual types of diseases.
Armenia is number one with the indicator for such cancer types as bladder cancer – 7.92, breast cancer - 39.96, pancreas cancer – 13.88, and uterine cancer – 10.00. In other types Armenia yields its leadership to other countries, but not much. In the category of “lung cancer” Armenia holds the second position with the indicator of 48.54, where Hungary holds the first line with the indicator of 54.26. In the category of “leukemia” Armenia hold the second place with the indicator of 6.67 after Iraq. Then stomach cancer is in the 6th place with the indicator of 19.28, ovary cancer is in the 8th place with the indicator of 8.41, liver cancer is in the 17th place with the indicator of 4.34, skin cancer is in the 56th place with the indicator of 1.99, prostate cancer is in the 68th place with the indicator of 18.81, throat cancer is in the 74th place with the indicator of 3.46 etc.
