“Green” civic initiatives such as “Save Teghout”, “Trchkan”, “Jermuk Won’t Become a Mine”, “Khosrov Reserve” have applied to Public Prosecutor of Armenia with a demand to bring Nature Protection Minister of Armenia Aram Harutyunyan and other officials of the ministry to criminal liability.
The initiative statement particularly says, “There are no such environmental field, where there wouldn’t be emergency states: soil management, Lake Sevan, atmosphere pollution, forest felling, small HPPs, pollution of rivers and aqueducts, uncontrollable wastes, damage of land areas, low qualifications of ministry employees, crushing of qualified employees…”
Another demand is addressed to PM, “Though the PM also bears responsibility for Nature Protection Minister’s actions, we demand to organize discussions on this statement and attached substantiation and to put efforts within shortest term to improve the situation in environment, to hold systematic and substantiated amendments in the legislation…We have sufficient resources in order not to allow the economy to boost at the expense of our nature, our wealth to be pitilessly plundered and Armenia to turn into a resource adjunct,” says the statement.
