Hakob Vardanyan, RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, answered EcoLur's questions on the development of solar energy in Armenia with his letter N 25/2/2022//4783-2022.
EcoLur:
- Please, indicate the names of the settlements where the solar stations will be located.
RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration և Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan:
- According to the licenses issued by RA Public Services Regulatory Commission, 36 solar power plants will be installed in the Republic of Armenia (12 in Gegharkunik Region, 15 in Aragatsotn Region, 8 in Vayots Dzor Region, and 1 in Shirak Region).
"Masdar Armenia Program" investment project implements the construction program of "Ayg-1" solar photovoltaic station in Dashtadem Community, Aragatsotn Region.
At present, within the framework of the program of construction of 5 MW power stations with the capacity of 120 MW prepared by Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund (R2E2), there are 48 hectares of land in Vardenis Community, 87 hectares in Talin Community, 40 hectares in Geghamasar and 40 hectares in Artsvanik Community. The presented land plots amount to 215 hectares, on which approximately 45.5 MW PV plant will be built.
EcoLur:
- What is the share of solar energy in the energy system as of 2022?
RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan:
- The share of electricity produced by solar power plants in the total is about 1.15%.
As of 01.01.2022, 6940 autonomous power generators with a capacity of up to 500 kW (with a total capacity of about 163.08 MW) have signed contracts with "Armenia Electric Networks" CJSC, 518 autonomous electric generators (with a total capacity of about 11.5 MW) have received technical terms.
As of 01.01.2022, according to the licenses issued by the Public Services Regulatory Commission, 34 solar power plants with a capacity of up to 5 MW with a total installed capacity of 154 MW are under construction. According to the issued licenses, 27-solar power plants with a total installed capacity of about 55.8 MW produce electricity.
EcoLur:
- Is there a normative base that will regulate the issues of use, neutralization, storage of decommissioned photovoltaic panels?
RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan:
- There is no normative base in Armenia, which will regulate the issues of use, neutralization, storage of decommissioned solar photovoltaic panels. On the other hand, it should be noted that in many countries around the world, the first steps are still being taken in this direction. Armenia can study international best practices within the framework of international cooperation in the field of energy.
