Construction of Most Powerful 200 MW "Ayg-1" Photovoltaic Station in Armenia Is in Preparation Stage

Specialists are currently working on one of the most important parts of the project, EIA - the environmental impact assessment. The studies are almost 70% complete, a few months more, the whole EIA package will be ready, and in case of a positive result, the design work will start. Archaeologists have unearthed numerous finds on more than 500 hectares of Ayg-1. In the area, there are tombs dating back to BC 15-10th centuries. According to archeologist Boris Gasparyan, they will ask the project managers to bypass those parts.

The total investment cost of the Ayg-1 photovoltaic station - a joint project by Armenian National Interest Fund and Masdar Company in Abu Dhabi is worth $ 174 million, the tariff for energy production is set at 2.9 cents per kilowatt-hour or about 14 AMD at today's exchange rate.

Hayk Tadevosyan, ANIF Business Director, “With this program, the Government of the Republic of Armenia reaffirms its commitment to expand the renewable energy sector in the Republic of Armenia, according to which it is planned to build solar power plants with a capacity of up to 1000 MW. 85% of the shares of "Masdar Armenia" joint venture created for the implementation of "Ayg-1" program belong to "Masdar" company in Abu Dhabi, whereas 15% belongs to ANIF. It is being built in Dashtadem and Talin communities. It is planned to put the plant into operation in 2025.”
