Tandzut Tributary to the Pambak River is one of the most polluted rivers in Armenia, which flows through Vanadzor Town taking household garbage with it. Nevertheless, in recent years when a SHPP has been constructed on the Tandzut and most of the river water has been piped, the sanitary state of Tandzut got worse. In their interview with EcoLur Vanadzor residents complained of the stink and contamination. 'Even on some days we can't open our windows because of the stink,' said locals in their interview with EcoLur. In reply to EcoLur's question whether they had taken part in the public hearings of the SHPP construction and given their agreement, the residents said they hadn't taken any part and nobody has asked for their opinions. In reply to the observation whether there is any fish in Tandzut, the residents said that before the SHPP construction there was fish, but it disappeared after the SHPP construction. The station of the SHPP is located in the administrative area of Vahagnadzor community, which has no own entrance. You should either walk across the area of the power station to approach to the SHPP building or to cross the local resident's area, which is the only way for the car. The SHPP building is located in a distance of 100 meters from the residential house and in a distance of 10 meters from the orchards, which makes the SHPP noise audible for the resident. The resident and SHPP are in a conflict. This material has been prepared in the frames of “Support to the Reforms of SHPPs through a Dialogue between the Public and The Ministry of Nature Protection of the RA for the Purpose of River Ecosystem Use” project.
