In the frames of “Support to SHPP-relating reforms through the dialogue of public and RA Nature Protection Ministry for Sustainable Use of River Ecosystems” the expert group visited “Yeheg” SHPP. It is located in Shatin Community’s administrative territory of Yeghegis River (river length of 47 km) in Vayots Dzor Region. The findings of the monitoring are as follows:

• SHPP started to work in 2014. The first products were made in November.

• According to the project, the static pressure of the SHPP -61.5m, estimated pressure – 48.0m, the estimated yield used by the SHPP is 5.0 m3/s, projected capacity – 1900 kW. According to the certificate issued by the Public Services Regulatory Committee, the factual useful delivery of the electricity is 6.8 million kWh. According to the project, the estimated production is 9.121 million kWh, duration of license - 13.11.2014-13.08.2029, water usage permit for construction - 03.06.2008-13.08.2013.

• Three local production aggregates are placed in the SHPP's building territory. It does not provide the 1,900 kW capacities; in maximum developing conditions it provides 1700 kW.

• The noise impact is significant near the station area, especially taking into consideration the fact that the SHPP was located in Shatin Community.

• The noise impact is due to low technical efficiency of hydroelectric generators.

• Landscaping and improvement sufficient measures are not taken in SHPP's building territory water intake coordinates laid down in water usage permit do not comply with the factual coordinates.

• There are no water metering observation points in water intake.

• It is impossible to guard or ensure the environmental outcome at “Yegheg" SHPP's head.

• The fish passway at the head of SHPP can not fully ensure the normal movement of fish living in the river.

• There is a fish protection net.

• Some kind of fishes such as Salmo fario, Barbus cyri, Alburnoides eichwaldii and Capoeta sevangi are meet in Yeghegis river( which are registered in animals’ Red Book).

• Percentage correlation of aggregate lenght (22758 meters) of 'Yeghegis 1' SHPP (according to the Public Services Regulatory Committee, length of derivation – 4000 meters), 'Yeghegnadzor' SHPP (according to project, length of derivation – 3250 meters, 54 meters), Yeghegnadzor 1' SHPP (according to project, length of derivation – 1220 meters), “Yeghegis-3”  (length of derivation – 1391 meters), “Yeghegis -2” SHPP (length of derivation – 2138 meters), “Yegheg” SHPP (length of derivation – 1924 meters),  “Goghtanik” SHPP (length of derivation – 1400 meters),  “Yeghegis” SHPP (length of derivation – 2450 meters), “Tigran Mets” SHPP (length of derivation – 2691 meters), and “Khachi Qar” SHPP (length of derivation – 2240 meters)      constructed on the Yeghegis River with the length of Yeghegis River makes up 48.42%.

 • The water level automatic regulation system is missing in water intake.

 • The resolution of disposal of household dirty water is deviated from the project as it was planned to put bio-toilets.

• Various types of waste accumulated on river’s coastal area.

 • Inspections were carried out in 2013 during construction phase.

 • 11 people work in SHPP.

 Proposals.

• It is possible to exchange 3 aggregates to one of European production, in order to increase SHPP work efficiency and decrease the noise.

• Place the metering device and control the environmental flow.

• Rebuild the fish passway that will satisfy the vital needs of fish in the river.

 • It is necessary regularly to carry out household waste discharge.

 • It is necessary to carry out landscaping and improvement work in SHPP's building territory.
