“In the village, they say, ‘Nare jan, come, write something, will you?’ I make videos and write about the village’s problems,” 15-year-old Nare Ghazaryan said in her interview with Aravot.am. Nare is from Martz, a community in Lori Region, Armenia, and a member of Public Journalists Network established within LILA project (Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia).
Her media pieces on Martz earned her second place in the “Best Community Coverage” competition organized by the LILA project.
Nare shared that she has always been interested in environmental issues. When EcoLur visited their school to present the project, she immediately saw an opportunity:
“This gives me the chance to highlight my village’s problems and contribute to finding solutions.”
Victoria Burnazyan, Vice President of EcoLur Informational NGO and Editor-in-Chief Editor of www.ecolur.org website, said: “Today, we have the Public Journalists Network, and as we like to say, they have become our eyes and ears in their villages. They report on village life and local issues.”
Naira Yeritsyan, representative of WWF Armenia and Coordinator of LILA project, added:
"The project has two components: market development and environmental protection. We conducted media tours and organized two training sessions for public journalists through EcoLur. We hope that the network will remain active even after the project ends.”
This article was produced by EcoLur Informational NGO during their visit to Syunik region from May 5–7 to present the outcomes of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project.
