On 17 September, after the midday, there were almost no emissions from Koshaberd chimney of Alaverdi copper smelting plant. There were rumors spread in Alaverdi that the copper smelting plant had also been pledged by 'Vallex' Group Company Chair Valeriy Mejlumyan at VTB-Armenia Bank and had become the property of the bank.
Today Director of 'Armenian Copper Program' Lusine Mejlumyan told the Hetq that no one in the company she runs enjoys working with out-of-date technologies and impermissible emissions. 'It is an operational pause in the plant for 2-3 days for the purpose of conducting regular rehabilitation works,' L. Mejlumyan explained.
In reply to our question on Alaverdi copper smelting plant being pledged at VTB-Armenia Bank, Lusine Mejlumyan responded, 'That's true that the copper smelting plant is pledged at VTB Bank, but it is not the property of the bank. Currently, negotiations are run to get the copper smelting plant out of the pledge,' she said.
Yesterday we found out that the VTB Bank has appointed Mikhail Semyonov as its Manager at 'Teghout' CJSC. We didn't succeed in meeting him. In both checkpoints of 'Teghout' CJSC the security staff told us that Mikhail Semyonov is still getting acquainted with the situation in 'Teghout' CJSC and hasn't still contacted the company employees. The security staff advised us to wait for several days to address questions to Mikhail Semyonov.
In reply to our written inquiry on the situation in 'Teghout' CJSC and the further destiny of the company, Taguhi Karapetyan, Head of Department for Information and Public Relations at Vallex Group Company informed us on the phone that currently they don't have any information on the situation in 'Teghout' CJSC. 'As soon as we receive any information, we will disseminate a press release,' Taguhi Karapetyan said.
