"I Had One Message from Inspections in Qajaran": Dismissed Inspection Head about Inspections at ZCMC

'I had only one message from the inspections in Qajaran – it shall comply with the mining standards in Germany. Within the frames of our legislation, a detailed inspection has been carried out, which, in my opinion, can answer the question to what extent this company is carrying out mining compliant to the mining standards in Germany,' said dismissed Head of Environmental and Mining Inspection Arthur Grigoryan at the public report held at Human Rights House Yerevan. Arthur Grigoryan was dismissed upon Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan's decision when the inspections at Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine were accomplished and the findings should have been summarized. That's the reason why Arthur Grigoryan's sudden dismissal is connected with the ZCMC. Moreover, Armenian PM was in Davos, Switzerland, on the day of signing this decision. 'I was waiting for PM's return from Davos so as to present him the inspections of Qajaran,' Arthur Grigoryan said and added that in-detailed inspections have been carried out, water samples were taken twice, the land areas in the tailing dump and adjacent land areas were examined, while the Inspection had involved the best specialists in these works to exclude any mistakes. He mentioned, 'Under these conditions when Inspection Head is dismissed, such an issue of economic, social and political significance can't be vested on the inspection. An acting head is not the person to bear responsibility for decision-making as a result of the inspections carried out at ZCMC. That's the question.' To be continued.
