Mghart Gold Mine Plant and Tailing Dump Constructed without EIA Expert Assessment: Letter with Violations Sent to Prosecutor

Multi Group Concern LLC has built a dressing plant and a tailing dump for the development of Mghart gold mine without an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), as Press Service of Environment Ministry informs.

On September 23, 2020Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan sent a letter about those violations to RA Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan. "In particular, according to the information provided by Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body, "Multi Group Concern" LLC has been operating the mine since 2011 without a water use permit, the existing structures in the area of ​​the mine were built without an expert opinion on environmental impact assessment, the permissible emission limits were violated.

Thus, the results of the inspection by Nature Protection and Mining Inspection Body revealed that the Company operated the mining complex in violation of the requirements of RA legislation, i.e. the Company operated Mghart gold mine mining complex without any having any environmental impact assessment for the dressing plant and the tailing dump.

Taking into account that in RA Code on Subsoil the authority to warn the soil managers, as well as to cease soil management is vested on Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, the relevant note with attached documents was sent to Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures.
