“MegoGold” Company has submitted the construction project of the third tailing dump in the territory of Meliq Village. The project says that the tails contain SiO2 – 46.23%; AL2O3 – 10.81%; MgO – 5.17% ; TiO2 – 0.82 %; CaO– 6.41%; MnO – 0.15%; Fe2O3 – 6.4%; FeO -3.62%: Both MegoGold Director Ashot Poghosyan and Hovhannes Nikaghosyan, Head of Environmental Department of “Lernametalurgiakan Institute”  deny the presence of heavy metals. Nevertheless, the representatives of “Teghout Support” civic initiative have taken the samples from the soil in the areas cultivated by farmers, as well as those of tails and sent the samples for analysis to the Center for Ecological Noosphere Studies of NAS RA. The findings show that the tail samples contain heavy and toxic elements and compounds, particularly arsenic, cadmium and lead. While the samples taken from farm lands show presence of chromium and zinc in the amounts exceeding the Maximum Permissible Concentration. “In-detailed studies should be carried out,” the statement says.
