On October 17, 2019 a criminal case was initiated in Syunik Regional Prosecutor's Office on damages caused with the breakdown of Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine pipeline and the pollution of Voghji River (Article 284 (2(1) of RA Criminal Code - violation of safety rules for handling chemically and biologically hazardous materials and waste, which negligently caused environmental pollution).

It was found out that the pipeline passing through the territory of Nerkin Geratagh village, Syunik Region, was damaged as a result of the violation of the rules of transportation of waste produced by the relevant employees of ZCMC CJSC. As a result, the wastewater passing through the pipeline, filling the tributary flowing through the said area, has been discharged into the Voghji River, negligently polluting the environment. The preliminary investigation will determine both the full facts and causes of the incident and the full and final extent of the damage caused to the environment.
