On June 30 the public discussions of environmental impact assessment project of Shahumyan gold-polymetallic mine underground development by “Deno Gold Mining Company” CJSC was held at Kapan Municipality. The technological part o the project was submitted by the specialists from “Geoekonomika” CJSC which were trusted to develop this project.
The factory has a capacity to develop 1 million tons of ore, but the current production capacity of Shahumyan mine is 300,000 tons, and they intend to make it 600,000 tons in near future.
It maw mentioned the project doesn’t lay down any dumps, while 70% of the generated dumps will go back to the mines, and the rest will be used in the tailing dump. It was also mentioned that 70% of the mineral waters flowing into the Norashenik River will be directed to the tailing dumps where after mechanical cleaning it will be directed to the factory as circulating water. Under the project, the environmental impact will be minimal.
