At the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Armenian delegation prevented the attempts of the Azerbaijani delegation aimed at the cessation of the operation of Metsamor nuclear power plant, as Head of Armenian delegation at PACE, Vice Speaker of National Assembly Arpine Hovhannisyan posted on her Facebook page.

'In the course of PACE October session, 'Nuclear Safety and Security in Europe' resolution was adopted. The aim of this resolution is to lay down the measures that member states shall perform to increase the safety and security of the nuclear power plants in Europe and reducing risks in case of accidents and terrorism. The key point in this resolution is that the PACE urges the nuclear regulatory authorities of Belarus not to issue an operational license for the Ostrovets plant (Belarus), under construction just 45 kilometres from the neighbouring State’s (Lithuania) capital city Vilnius, the Assembly recalls its Resolution 2172 (2017) on the situation in Belarus which deplores the lack of respect for international nuclear safety standards and major incidents on the construction site. In light of the latest developments, notably the national stress test report (comprehensive risk and safety assessment) and the related peer review mission. In regard to this resolution, the Azerbaijani delegation tried to include formulations in the resolution in regard to the cessation of the operation of Metsamor nuclear power plant. Anyway, they were not a success, we prevented it,' Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote.
