The operation of Armenian nuclear power plant should have been finished in 2016. Nevertheless, “Armatom” director Vahram Petrosyan thinks that it’s still untimely to speak about the new power unit. “We are not a rich country to have free money to spend it any time,” he said in his interview with А1+. Unless new funds are found for the construction of a new power unit, which make up billion of US dollars, the operation term of the old power unit should be prolonged. He said that on 29-30 a protocol was signed with the Russian “Rosatom” Company, which lays down the list of needed works, which will make the operation of the station operating since 1976 safe, and under his opinion, its operation term can be prolonged up to 10 years.
