In 2020, the number of cases of illegal logging in Lori region increased by 45% compared to 2019. Lori Regional Prosecutor's Office has investigated the cases of illegal tree felling.

Accordingly, 263 cases of illegal tree felling were recorded in 2020, out of which 138 were criminal cases. 7 criminal cases related to illegal logging have been initiated by officials responsible for forest protection in connection with various apparently corrupt criminal acts.

The Prosecutor's Office links the increase in deforestation to the control of forest areas, preventive measures, shortcomings in the process of identifying perpetrators of deforestation, the involvement of a large number of regional police officers in hostilities during the Artsakh war, and the fact that they are temporarily deprived of performing their duties.

3890 trees were illegally cut down within the suspended criminal proceedings, whereas the damage caused amounted to 250 million 443 thousand 270 AMD.
