RA Prosecutor's Office: Increase in Illegal Forest Felling in Tavush Region

In 2020, 502 cases of illegal forest felling were found in the territory of Tavush Region. Criminal cases have been initiated against 138 of them, which compared to the same period in 2019 increased by about 8.6%, as RA Prosecutor's Office informs.

“The damage caused to the state in connection with the cases of illegal forest felling initiated in connection with the cases of illegal forest felling under the judicial supervision or control of the prosecutors of Tavush Regional Prosecutor's Office amounted to around 170 million AMD. The prosecutor's office sent 24 proposals to a number of citizens to voluntarily compensate the damage in the total amount of 17 million AMD.

In 2020, 25 criminal cases on illegal forest felling against 28 people were sent to court with indictments.

In 2020, 10 criminal cases have been initiated on the facts of defaulting or improper performance of their duties due to unscrupulous or negligent attitude towards the service by the competent officials of "ArmForest" SNCO. Two forest rangers have been charged with taking bribes in exchange for illegally collecting timber.

Due to the criminal shortcomings committed by the competent officials in the mentioned criminal cases, a total damage of 96 million AMD was caused to the state.
