Inspection Official Altered Water Samples Taken from Debed River in Exchange for Bribe; Criminal Case Sent to Court

A criminal investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has revealed that the director of a copper mining company operating in Lori Region, upon learning that water samples taken from the Debed River by an employee of RA Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection could cause problems for the company, organized a bribery scheme involving one of his employees and the Chief Inspector.

The Inspection official, in exchange for a bribe and in favor of the company, committed an illegal act by discarding the previously collected water samples from various points along the Debed River and replacing them with new samples taken from a location indicated by the company's employee.

As a result, the company director, the employee, and the Chief Inspector have been formally charged with organizing and participating in the bribery scheme. The materials of the criminal case have been sent to court.
