EcoLur

The reply letter of the Culture Ministry to EcoLur says that the Culture Ministry of Armenia hasn’t received the construction project of a cyanic plant in Meghradzor for consideration. “The Culture Ministry of Armenia doesn’t possess any information about probable impact of harmful emissions from Meghradzor gold mine on cultural-historical monuments, as appropriate observations haven’t been carried out. The Ministry hasn’t received any data about the composition and amount of harmful substances in air. Laboratory studies should be carried out needed to provide reliable information, which will refer to the impact of emissions on stone and accompanying historical-cultural buildings. According to the list of historical-cultural monuments in Kotayk region approved by the Government of Armenia, the monuments are located in the territory of Meghradzor, Artavaz, Aghavnadzor, Pyunik communities, about in a distance of 0.5-0.1 km and up to 3-4 km, in the zone of 300 m from the mine. Studies should be carried out for damage assessment taking into consideration the compositions of emissions, their spread, density etc,” the letter says.

Reminder: on 10 January EcoLur has applied to a number of Ministries – Nature Protection, Health, Agriculture, Culture, so as they presented their opinion about the construction project of the cyanic plant in Meghradzor by “Meghradzor Gold” LLC according to Article 5 of RA Law “On Environmental Impact Expert Assessment”.
