- Mr. Hovakimyan, why do you want to become Khosrov Reserve Director?
-My competencies are quite sufficient for this position. My bio is completely suitable for this post. Since 1992 I have been involved into the system and have worked as Deputy Director in Protection in Khosrov State Reserve. I have continues my work in the system of Nature Protection Ministry… I am an economist, but have the experience of working in environmental system since 1992.
- What are your plans for Khosrov Reserve?
-My priority has been the enhancement of its protection, to exercise enhanced control in the whole territory 24/7. I have set up a special brigade, who are on duty 24/7 and control the whole territory. We have several cases detected and prevented them: protocols on poaching and fishing have been drawn up. The main goal should definitely be protection to develop science. Without protection science works will remain incomplete.

- Why do you want to become Khosrov Reserve Director?
- I have studies at Yerevan Vet Institute; my profession is a vet-engineer. I think it suits with the job.
- What are your plans for Khosrov Reserve?
- I haven’t developed a concrete program, but it will emerge as a result of the work. My plans are various and everybody says the same – protection, science development and similar things.
- Khosrov Reserve is rather vulnerable in terms of poaching. What are your measures to fight against poachers?
- I have been working in this sphere for 14 years and so far we have been fighting against them. There are measures to organize all this in a more interesting way. By saying interesting I mean to enhance protection, meetings with communities and private meetings with poachers to advocate stopping poaching of red-listed animals. We have taken such measures, but we will continue doing the same.

- What are your plans for Khosrov Reserve?
- Before implementing the core program, first of all, to conduct monitoring, inventory, to reveal not only reasons for poaching (many animals disappear, many animals turn into red-listed) and to base on this what should be done in Khosrov and such reserves – biosphere, microclimate to conserve this system.
- Please, specify your specialization and experience.
- My first specialization is an engineer. I have graduated from Polytechnic university as well as Management School, now Academy of State Administration, I’m a specialist in management, which is an important factor in any sphere, both in the country or any enterprise.
- What are your measures to fight against poachers?
- First, the wider or larger roads need checking points. Secondly, to run correct personnel policy and to recruit proper employees with right qualifications. Financial support in the form of salary increase and bonuses should be done not to support poaching. It’s known that several international funds are willing to provide funds and to organize fundraising through providing other services to keep the staff under normal conditions.
