At the meeting of the executive on 10 July Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan paid a special attention to the problem of water in Ararat Valley. He drew Nature Protection Ministry’s attention to the need to exercise toughest control over business entities and noted, “We have launched a large process to ensure effective use of water in Ararat and receive alarm signals from various environmental organizations that the situation in Ararat Valley is very tense. The communities have applied to us describing that they are deprived of both drinking water and irrigation water because of reduction of ground waters. We need to interfere here urgently. Today we have extra waste of water and it can cause a disastrous situation in Ararat Valley, as we have around one hundred fish farms, and tomorrow we will face the problem that we don’t have water resources to develop their farms. At the same time we have around 700 illegal wells, that currently operate and we should solve this problem urgently and to set an order in this field.”
