Armenian Deputy PM, Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan promised the residents of Aragatsotn residents to meet with Ohanavan villagers at 17:00 on Friday and to inform about the final decision whether or not the SHPP will be constructed. The residents decided, if the decision is in favour of the SHPP construction, they will again block Yerevan-Aparan roadway, as EcoLur’s correspondent from Ohanavan informs.
In reply to the demand posed by the residents of seven villages in Aragatsotn Region to announce about not constructing any SHPP, Armen Gevorgyan particularly said, “You know that after meeting your community heads on 4 March a committee has been set up, which has been working for over a week. The committee will submit the findings in upcoming 2-3 days. When the findings are discussed, I will personally arrive in the village and inform you whether or not the SHPP will be constructed. Right now I can assure you by 100%, no construction works will be held till the final decision.”
Reminder: on 19 March the residents of seven villages in Aragatsotn Region blocked Yerevan-Aparan road demanding not to construct any SHPP on the canal to Arzni-Shamiram main canal. The residents are sure they will be deprived of irrigation water if the SHPP is constructed.
An ad hoc committee has been set up to regulate this issue, which will submit the results of the studies and proposals to the Government within set timeframes.
The SHPP, which will be named “Shamiram-1” is planned to be constructed by “GAHA Energy Company, nevertheless, the SHPP construction project hasn’t undergone the environmental expertise yet.
