Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan paid a working visit to Vayots Dzor Region. The environmental problems in the region were discussed during the working consultation held at regional municipality, particularly poaching, problems with irrigation in the communities connected with SHPP activities, regional landfill sites and other issues.
There are certain water users in the region, including communities, who don’t have water usage permits or their current water usage documents don’t comply with the requirements of the law. The Nature Protection Ministry is willing to support them by providing professional assistance in issuing permits.
The heads of water using companies in the region informed that they experienced problems with water supply because of the irregular activities of some SHPPs and asked the Nature Protection Minister to assist them in solving this problem. Nature Protection Minister Aramayis Grigoryan assigned relevant department head to review the water usage permits issued to the aforementioned SHPPs and to give a solution to the problem in the frames of the existing legislation outlining that the Armenian Government currently prioritizes irrigation.
