Kapan residents are concerned that the drinking water for Kapan will be included in the system of seven SHHPs. “Drinking water is a problem for the town and this problem may escalate… The drinking water passes through turbines and turns into technical one… Four SHHPs already operate on the aqueduct supplying Kapan with water and Kapan population suffers from poor quality of the water caused by technical state of the pipelines and communications… Risks are rather high for us…” they said.
Under the information they have these SHPPs will be constructed by three companies – “EuroEnergy Holding” LLC, “EAS Energosystem” LLC and “Southern Power Company” LLC. The residents tried to find out what the risks of these projects are and they applied to competent bodies - Department of Water Resources of Southern Water Basin, Territorial Inspection of Syunik Region, “ArmWaterCanal”. They didn’t receive any response but the question is still in discussion process. Head of Kapan Section of Southern Division of “ArmWaterCanal” CJSC Hovhannes Gevorgyan said they a SHPP is currently being constructed next to the cleaning station, but he has no idea about the others. He also stated that he can’t see any risks, but Kapan residents don’t share his opinion.
