The experience, challenges and recommendations of seven Armenian communities regarding biodiversity conservation and sustainable use will be presented by EcoLur in the Green Zone of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17).
EcoLur’s session, entitled “Communities as Biodiversity Conservationists and Sustainable Users,” will take place on 21 October 2026, from 14:00 to 15:30 in **Workshop Room 1 in the Green Zone at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, 1 Tsitsernakaberd Park, Yerevan.
Representatives of communities from Gegharkunik, Ararat, Tavush, Vayots Dzor and Lori Regions will discuss the conservation of Lake Sevan, the role of forests in community life, tourism development through ecosystem services, and the impacts of climate change and economic activities on biodiversity. They will also highlight ways to address these challenges. A Community Declaration will be adopted during the session.
The event is organised within the framework of “Supporting Armenia's CBD COP Presidency and Domestic Implementation” project, in cooperation with Fridtjof Nansen Institute, with support from Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
