Issue of Drinking Water Safety in Armavir Region on Agenda Again

In Armavir Region, drinking water safety issue is on the agenda. Tap water is not clean, residents mainly buy water from Talin or Garni. Talin water costs 10 AMD for 1 litre, Garni water costs 15 AMD for 1 litre.

“In Armavir, this is the best business that is uncontrolled, and no one is responsible for the health of the people,” Angela Stepanyan, President of Armavir-based “Sustainable Development in Region” NGO notes.

Residents of ANPP-adjacent Metsamor community also express their concerns. "Drinking water in Metsamor and some settlements is not of good quality. There is no assurance whether the water in the cisterns meets sanitary and hygienic requirements, whether we are using clean water. We taste the water coming from the tap. A part of the population buys water," a Metsamor resident Hasmik Harutyunyan outlines.

According to her, the level of underground water in rural areas has dropped in recent years, many also experience problems with irrigation water.

According to First Deputy Head of Metsamor Community, Edgar Hovhannisyan, the drinking water network is being modernized in the community, drinking water network is being built in 18 settlements.

An irrigation system was not available. The residents’ problem of the first necessity has been solved, which will be continuous: we have plans to restore deep wells in 2024,” Edgar Hovhannisyan outlines.

This topic will be covered in future publications.
