The agricultural land areas of Jrarat Community, Kotayk Region, are located next to Hrazdan cement factory. The villagers have privatized these land areas, nevertheless, they don’t cultivate it. “Only one out of 1000 people is able to cultivate the land area. People here are poor… Nobody helps a villager. I have gone to the village council and ask them to give wheat or potato to people, they refused. What about wheat seed, the village head distributed it to four people only,” told EcoLur Jrarat villager Liparit Muradyan, who was pasturing his cow in not-cultivated land areas.
“I have been a foreman for more than 30 years in these fields. We used to have an agriculturist, a director, and you couldn't find any piece of not cultivated land... Now all the machinery has been sold out...This year people said that Gagik Tsarukyan should present a tractor, we asked the village head, he said nothing like that,” said L. Muradyan. When EcoLur asked what he would like the government to do for Jrarat, L. Muradyan said, 'We would like to have machinery so as the people could cultivate their land areas, plough them. '
It should be mentioned that 'Achievement of Kotayk Region, Republic of Armenia, for 2007-2011' report says that the lowest specific weight in agriculture employment has Kotayk Region.
