On 23 October 2015 the PEF camera again fixed the disastrous situation of the Martz River, which proved once again that the SHPPs constructed and operated in such manner are not for producing electricity in environmentally friendly manner, but a real disaster for the river ecosystems in Armenia.
There are two SHPPs constructed on the Martz River, Deved Tributary – “Martziget-2” and “Martziget 1”, and as a result of their operation around 11 km of the river section flow not in their natural riverbed but in the pipes. In low-water season, which makes up almost 8 months, the Martz River, as a matter of fact, disappears together with its whole biodiversity.
