“Teghout Support” civic initiative invites activists to take part in the protest demonstration aimed against the policy of financing anti-environmental projects by Vneshtorgbank. The protest demonstration will be held on 25 September, at 13:00 p.m. participants will gather near the head office of VTB at 46 Nalbandyan. As the statement disseminated by the initiative says the aim of the protest demonstration is to attract attention of the Global Environment Fund, which has launched the process of VTB accreditation. As the statement says, VTB has allotted a loan to “Armenian Copper Programme” (ACP) program, which develops Teghout copper and molybdenum mine. Teghout supporters note in this project the activities of VTB contradict to the mandate of the GEF on reducing global environmental risks and supporting sustainable development in developing countries.
It should be noted that VTB has already passed the selection in the first stage of GEF accreditation.
