On 28 February “Teghout Support” Civic Initiative held a protest demonstration in front of the Armenian Government. The reason for this protest demonstration is granting privileges to “Teghout” CJSC, the developer of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine, on extending the timelimit of paying VAT for exported good till March 1, 2016.
In this regard, the initiative has circulated a statement, which particularly says:
“Still on 21 December 2012 we gave a report to the Special Criminal Investigation Department about the crime committed in Teghout proving the mine development is carried out under completely another project, which hasn’t undergone any environmental expertise and hasn’t been proved. Meanwhile, the new project causes larger destructions than the previous one. So far this department hasn’t processed the report on crime, meanwhile they had to process the case within 10 days after filing a report.
2. On the same day we filed a letter to Nature Protection Minister demanding to hold inspections and to find out whether or not the mining is carries out under the approved project and so far there was no significant response.
A conclusion can be made from all this that the company developer of Teghout mine is under President Serzh Sargsyan’s protection, while other state bodies equally share criminal liability for illegal mining.
This cynic negligence persistently shown towards law and rights leads to insist that the single way to stop these illegalities and to bring criminals to justice is the destruction of current criminal system in Armenia.”
