'Shame, VTB!!! ShameonYou!!!!': this is what the participants of protest demonstration chanted who gathered near the head office of VTB on 25 September. Teghout supporters protest against the funding of Teghout project of copper and molybdenum mine development by VTB. The project is implemented at the expense of destroying unique ecosystem of Teghout forest with numerous and uncontrollable risks. This time the reason for protest demonstration was that VTB had passed the initial process of accreditation declared by the Global Environment Fund, GEF. The protesters marched from VTB office to Marriot Hotel where the extended seminar of GEF took place. They passed the organizer a letter addressed to the Chairperson of GEF, Dr. Naoko Ishii, which particularly says, “We would like to ask the GEF Board to take into consideration VTB activities in Armenia when making a decision in regard with VTB accreditation. We are sure in order to become a reliable partner to GEF, VTB doesn’t have sufficient honesty to perform its obligations in proper manner, which are in line with GEF mission. Neglecting VTB activities will undermine the impartiality of GEF in decision-making and quality of consistence in principles and values,” the letter says.
