When going to work every day, the residents of Aghdzk settlement, Aragatsotn Region, take with them a bag of garbage in addition to the necessary items.
"Our neighbors take the day's garbage with them to Ashtarak, the regional center, to throw it into the garbage can. There are no garbage bins available in the village, but instead there are many dogs scavenging the garbage," an Aghdzq resident says.
Although the garbage truck enters Agdzq twice a week, garbage collection is done from every house once a week. Some of the residents prefer to take the garbage to Ashtarak themselves rather than waiting for the garbage collector, because it is impossible to keep the garbage for a week, especially in the summer.
"Garbage collection is carried out twice a week in different areas. I won't be able to carry the whole village in one run. I collect one part on Wednesday, the other on Thursday," the garbage truck driver Grigor outlines.
Agdzq residents are also satisfied with this condition, because they didn't even have this years ago. "In the past, we used to dump both construction and household garbage in the swamp called "Gyol", while the residents of Nerqin District dumped it under the village, which they have already closed," an Aghdzq resident noted.
At present, "EcoCenter" LLC transports the garbage to a landfill located several kilometers away from Sasunik settlement.
According to the data provided by the Ashtarak Community Public Utilities Association in charge of garbage collection, currently garbage collection is carried out in 28 settlements in the community, and 55,724 residents use it.
