Conference “Armenia on Path to Introducing Extended Producer Responsibility System” to Be Held

On May 13, at 11:00 a.m., a conference titled “Armenia on Path to Introducing Extended Producer Responsibility System” will take place at the Faculty Lounge of the Paramaz Avedisian Building of the American University of Armenia (1st floor, 40 Marshal Baghramyan Ave., Yerevan).

The conference aims to raise awareness among civil society about the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system being introduced in Armenia - a waste management tool widely recognized as an effective model in the European Union and other countries. At the same time, the introduction of the EPR system is among Armenia’s commitments under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between Armenia and the European Union.

Conference speakers Harutyun Alpetyan, Head of  “Waste Policy Armenia” program, and Victoria Burnazyan, Deputy President of “EcoLur” Informational NGO, will present both the EPR mechanism itself and the environmental and economic impacts of the system, as well as the results of awareness-raising activities carried out with communities. Opinions and recommendations aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the system will also be collected during the conference.

The conference is organized by “EcoLur” Informational NGO within the framework of “Get Informed and Support Introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility System in Armenia” subproject implemented as part of the Sweden-funded “Waste Policy Armenia” program. The program is carried out by the Acopian Center for the Environment at the American University of Armenia in cooperation with the RA Ministry of Environment and the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
