As part of “Clean Future for Armenia’s Mountain Rivers” project, a cleanup operation was carried out along the banks of the Yeghegis River in the settlement of Shatin. The initiative was implemented in cooperation between community volunteers and the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPAN), a non-governmental organization.

The cleanup was preceded by a training session during which volunteers learned about FPAN’s activities, the project’s objectives, and efforts to protect Armenia’s mountain rivers. Participants gained knowledge about the importance of river ecosystems, waste sorting, and recycling. They were also introduced to the ecomap.am platform, which can serve as a tool for environmental protection.

Following the training, the volunteers worked alongside FPAN representatives to clean the banks of the Yeghegis River. The collected waste was sorted for subsequent recycling.
One of the project’s objectives is to equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills they need not only to participate in environmental initiatives but also to promote responsible attitudes toward nature and raise environmental awareness in their communities. After completing the training, volunteer groups continue to take part in river cleanups, sharing their newly acquired knowledge with other community members.

Protecting Armenia’s mountain rivers is essential for preserving natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and water resources. Initiatives aimed at reducing river pollution also help strengthen community engagement and environmental responsibility.
FPAN implements environmental protection and sustainable development projects in Armenia. Its main areas of activity include biodiversity and natural landscape conservation, sustainable rural development, the promotion of nature-based tourism, and the involvement of the private sector and local communities in environmental initiatives.
Training sessions and cleanup activities along mountain rivers are continuing as part of “Clean Future for Armenia’s Mountain Rivers” project.
