The water use permits (WUPs) of all small hydropower plants operating on the Yeghegis River are currently being reviewed, as Environment Ministry informs. Acting Environment Minister Vahe Jilavyan visited Vayots Dzor Region to get acquainted with the problems related to the environmental flow of small hydropower plants on the Yeghegis River, to discuss with specialists a number of issues related to water use permits issued to small hydropower plants in the river section.
Reminder: recently a violation was recorded by "Yegheg" SHPP operating on Yeghegis river. As a result of more water intake from the river by the SHPP owned by "Yegheg HPP" LLC, more than 3 million AMD of damage was caused to the environment.
10 SHPPs have been built on the Yeghegis River, and 3 small HPPs are under construction. Yeghegis, only 47 km long, flows through SHPP pipes in an area of more than 50%.
