"The sources of water supply of Vorotan and Arpa rivers are located mainly in Qarvachar area. Unfortunately, these areas are currently under the control of the opposing side," RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan said during his recent press conference. Later, in this regard, RA Environment Ministry issued a clarification, which says:
"The response voiced by the Minister did not refer to the direct sources of the mentioned rivers, but to certain areas that are part of the catchment areas of Vorotan and Arpa rivers, where there are springs that feed those rivers, which may have some impact on the catchment area feeding Lake Sevan. Naturally, that effect is very small. RA Environment Ministry has already sent a number of letters and alarm signals to the relevant departments. We also inform that until the final interstate demarcation is carried out, it is not possible to address the issue clearly and unequivocally.”
