

RA Ministry Environment has launched a series of publications dedicated to the work done by RA Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan during his one year in office. Reports on work in the water and forestry sectors have already been published. Below we present those press releases.
Water sector
• A package of draft laws on "Amendments to RA Water Code" has been developed;
• Decree N 335-N of RA Environment Minister dated on September 9, 2020 established the requirements for hydrological, hydromorphological and hydrochemical protection of water resources in recreational zones;
• On 8 April 2021, the Armenian Government adopted resolution "On defining the list of rivers prohibited for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants conditioned with being spawning sites for red-listed or endemic fish species or overloaded with derivation pipelines by 40% and over”, which lays down the list of the rivers where the construction of SHPPs is banned;
• The Government approved "Procedure for installation, sealing and use of technical equipment for online tracking of drilling rigs for the use of groundwater, which is aimed at the rational use and protection of groundwater, the prevention of unauthorized drilling operations in Lake Sevan." Administrative liability has been established for exercising proper control over the use of the resource.
•Hydrobiological monitoring of surface water in Arpa, Vorotan and Debed river basins has been carried out since June 2020 within the framework of "EU Water Initiative +" project.
•183 water use permits were issued. 207 water use permits were extended. 21 water use permits were reissued. 48 applications for water use permits were rejected.
• Minister Petrosyan addressed a letter to the RA Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan, presenting information on the studies conducted on the protection of the actual state of water resources in the 7 largest fish farms in Ararat Region from April 27 to April 29, 2021.
Forest Sector
• 702,280 trees were planted in Armenia in 2020-2021 within the framework of "10 million trees" initiative;
• In the fall of 2020, 372 hectares of forest restoration and afforestation works were carried out in forestry branches of "ArmForest" SNCO of Forest Committee with the financing of the state budget;
• A 4.8-hectare nursery was established, as well as about 160,000 closed rootstocks were planted;
• About 68,000 cubic meters of spare firewood were provided free of charge to the population of the forest communities;
• The forest management plans of Sisian, Sevqar and Chambarak branches of "ArmForest" SNCO of Forest Committee have been developed, which are currently in the stage of environmental impact assessment.
• In 2021, aviation chemical control works were carried out in 5533 hectares of forests of Aragatsotn-Hrazdan forestry branches of "ArmForest" SNCO of Forest Committee;
• Following the 15th Coronavirus Neutralization Measure in 2020, the German Ministry for International Cooperation (GIZ) and Environment Ministry jointly implemented the COVID-19 Rehabilitation Program in Armenia, within its framework 520,000 willow cuttings were planted on the banks of Karchaghbyur, Argitchi, Masrik, Gavaraget rivers in Gegharkunik Region in May 2021.
