Methodology for Assessing and Managing Ecological Condition of Water Basin Areas In Armenia Being Developed

The researchers of the Institute of Hydroecology and Ichthyology of Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA are developing a methodology for the multi-component assessment and management of the ecological condition of the water basins in Armenia. The resulting methodology must be consistent with the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive.

13 species of fish, 5 species of mosses, and 3 species of algae were recorded in the Aghstev river basin. New species of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Diptera were discovered for the Aghstev River and its Getik and Haghartsin tributaries.

All possible benchmark areas of the Hrazdan and Aghstev river basins have been identified.
