“The level of underground waters in Ararat Valley has been lowered which is the result of underground basin exploitation. 150-meter-deep wells are drilled to ensure fish farms with water. There is uncontrollable super consumption of underground waters which results in very serious environmental risks such as desertification of springs, rivers and lakes,” said “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO Chairman Karine Danielyan.
“Because of ruthless exploitation Ararat Valley faces desertification, and as an expert I can say that the drying of artesian waters is conditioned by a large number of fish farms. All this should be prevented as soon as possible, and we need state will here,” said environmentalist Qnarik Hovhannisyan.
