The press-release disseminated by “Teghout Support” civic initiative says that The “Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine” CJSC doesn’t pay anything for the industrial emissions, which pollute Norashenik River. “The Norashenik River has turned into one of the most polluted rivers in Armenia due to the discharges of “refined” water from Artsvanik tailing dump…Meanwhile Norashenik is used for the irrigation of land areas and homestead lands of the farmers. The studies conducted by the Center for Ecological Noo-Sphere Studies showed that water is not suitable for irrigation. The combine doesn’t pay anything for pollution, while discharges are not considered wastes of hazard class 5 - not posing any risks for environment. A breakdown occurred on the tailing pipe of Deno Gold Mining Company on 1 December, nevertheless silence is kept about the damages. Only the company is liable for this and not law enforcement bodies…” says the press release of the initiative.
